Bands


‘The 33rd South Of Ireland Band Championship’s take place this weekend in Clonakilty with the Ardee & Lourdes Brass Band getting proceedings underway at Astna Sq. Friday evening at 5pm.
‘Saturday will see competition commence at 10:30am in the Clonakilty Community College.
This year 24 bands will participate in the festival – The most ever in the competitions 33 years!
The competition is divided into Senior, intermediate & junior categories, with our own Clonakilty Brass Band participating in the Senior section this year!
  • This years Ajudicators will be:     Dr. Evelyn Grant - Junior Section.
  • Mr. Denis Wilby - Intermediate & Senior Section
Once the competition begins, bands will perform at various locations throughout the town including as always Astna Sq.’

The SOI BAND CHAMPIONSHIP Committee would also like to acknowledge the outpourings of sympathy and good will for Clonakilty over the last week from all the participating bands. It is our hope that the beautiful music of this year’s event will go some way towards lightening the heavy hearts of the town.’

Clonakilty Brass Band are having a Fundraising Duck Race on Sunday 8th July and in consideration for the terrible flood that befell the town last week the Band would like to share the proceeds with the Flood Relief Fund.
Race is starting at 1pm at the bridge at Emmet Square where the Lourdes Band will be playing and finish at the Whale Tail where the Clonakilty Brass Band will be playing.
Come along and enjoy the fun in honour of a great cause.
Ducks are a tenner apiece and the winning duck scoops 300 Euros.
