Old Time Fair

CareChoice Clonakilty’s Old Time Fair encourages older people to embrace their rural Irish heritage on many levels. The Festival’s aim was to remind the residents of CareChoice Clonakilty of the events and traditions they once loved, to encourage outdoor activities and communication between the residents their families and the staff from CareChoice Clonakilty Nursing Home and Retirement Village.

According to Maureen O’Donovan, Director of Nursing at CareChoice Clonakilty “The Old Time Fair demonstrates yet again that a move to a nursing Home is merely a ‘change of address’ for older people as their social life and outdoor pursuits continues apace, and in some cases, is brought to light for the first time. I think the Festival has brought us all closer together to share experiences of days gone by.  I am particularly proud of the immense hard work of all the CareChoice Team and  our volunteers to make the day possible. www.carechoice.ie

Visit to Clonakilty

Dear Sirs,

My wife and I have just returned home from a week long holiday in West Cork, including a visit yesterday to Clonakilty town and later to Inchydoney. We were both highly impressed with the cleanliness and general tidiness of the shops, restaurants and other businesses despite the fact that the recent floods have caused so much havoc to traders and residents alike. I appreciate that there is still substantial repair work to be carried out to several properties and we saw evidence of this underway at various locations.

I think what impressed us most was the genuine friendliness and helpfulness from every business person that we came into contact with. You have a town to be proud of and it is the people working and living there who are the real building blocks. Bricks, cement and timber can all be replaced or repaired with relative ease but getting the right people is somewhat harder. In Clonakilty you have the right people and it will be much appreciated if you could find some way to pass our best wishes to them all. We very much look forward to our next visit.

With best regards,

Mark & Mary-Lou Parker
